The Mandarin Bud I class is for reception to year 1 ages with children who are beginners with their Mandarin. Personalised teaching taking into account each child's first language background and learning style, will be made possible and duly taken into their lessons. All lessons will be delivered in immersive Mandarin Chinese. English explanations will be given when needed, but are always kept to a minimum allowing for children to have the maximum exposure to Mandarin with us. Teachers will use multimedia and interactive classroom activities with an emphasis on learning through fun play. Age relevant Chinese idiom stories and Chinese history will be introduced in drama-style lessons. Students will also be taught how to use Pinyin (symbols for Chinese pronunciation) by the end of the academic school year. Children will learn to read independently, and write in Mandarin. Within a year of study, students will achieve YCT (Youth Chinese Test) Level 1, a command 80 -150 words in reading and speaking. Children will be encouraged to sing, dance and perform doing short drama playing in Mandarin.
Children are encoraged to do a minimum 10 minutes daily learning, doing revision in listening, reading, and writing in Mandarin. Home Chinese language environment is not essential, but parents' support in their children's daily learning is crucial.
